For the first time on radio - Mosaics and Transparencies, by Warren Burt: live on The Sound Barrier!

Tomorrow night on The Sound Barrier I will be bringing you, live from the PBS studio, a brand new work by one of Melbourne's legends of experimental and new music. Warren Burt, born in the States but calling different bits of Australia home since he arrived here over forty years ago, has left important marks in many parts of the new music scene, right from his very early years here where he, along with Ron Nagorcka, set up the seminal new music collective that formed at the Clifton Hill Community Music Centre in 1976.

His new electro-acoustic work Mosaics and Transparencies, which has been in the making throughout much of this year, works with multi-channel spatialised sound, but is being prepared for stereo performance in its radio world premiere on tomorrow night's show.

As well as hearing this epic work, and chatting with Warren about it, I will be kicking off the show with some music from some of Warren's composition students at Box Hill Institute, some of whom will also be joining me in the studio to chat about their work.

It will be a great chance to listen, live, to this new work by one of Australia's most important composers of new music, active across so many acoustic and electronic domains, as well as the music of the future that he is helping to shape through his students.

As always, The Sound Barrier goes live to air on Melbourne's 106.7 PBS FM at 10.00 PM Sunday night (AEDT). It is also transmitted on PBS Digital radio, as well as via the PBS app and online. So you can listen anywhere, whenever it is – as well as being able to listen back via the audio archives, here on the website, shortly after the show has gone live to air.
