Ross McHenry Trio - The Outsiders (PBS Feature Record)

The Outsiders is the new album from multi-award winning composer, producer and bass player Ross McHenry. Known for his work as bandleader of The Shaolin Afronauts, Ross has collaborated with the likes of Mark de Clive Lowe, Corey King and Marcus Strickland, and been heralded as The Future of Australian Jazz.

The Outsiders is dynamic trio jazz from the perspective of three forward thinking musicians who although steeped in the jazz tradition are not bound by jazz influences alone.

The album’s concept is centered around the sense of belonging in the modern era; the way we view the world in the age of globalization. Particularly the unique identity of Antipodeans in the world of jazz music; rather than replicate American and British sounds, these compositions are derived from an exploration of geographical identity, embracing the uniqueness of their own cultural sonic qualities.

The Living Eyes - Modern Living (featured on The Breakfast Spread)

Geelong locals, The Living Eyes are a rock band that blend their own version of melodic power pop and garage-y rock. Forming in West Geelong in 2010 they started out in their teenage years as a strictly 60’s garage band, playing shows with friends, The Frowning Clouds, Bonniwells etc.

2013 saw themselves a debut LP on in-house label Anti Fade and catchy singles like Ways to Make A Living and Up And At Them found themselves some new friends. A month after its release they toured the Australian East coast in celebration - and made some more new friends.

The Geelong quartet return with, Modern Living, the band’s third LP. The new album comes bearing a different sound to the previous two, taking references to artists like The Monochrome Set, The Troggs, early Brian Eno, and of course Australia’s own; the Sunnyboys and The Saints. The record was recorded late 2016 in Brunswick by Stu Mackenzie, and finished off with an array of overdubs in Geelong including mandolin, bongos, strings, piano and more.
