Fri 29 Apr 2011 to Thu 5 May 2011

Over twenty instruments, played by just two ambitious musicians, brings Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells to life in a very unique theatrical performance at the Arts Centre from 29 April to 5 May 2011.

Pianos, organs, electric guitars, acoustic and Spanish guitars, bass guitar, mandolin, tuned percussion, drums, glockenspiel, loop pedals, synthesizers and, of course, tubular bells feature in this ambitious project by multi-instrumentalists Daniel Holdsworth (The Saturns / The Maple Trail) and Aidan Roberts (The Maple Trail / Belles Will Ring).

Intricately choreographed, the work by the Sydney-based musicians has been rehearsed to present the influential masterpiece true to the original recording with all its multi-layered madness and subtle beauty intact.

Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells is perhaps the most unlikely smash hit record ever to be released. The beautiful and sprawling progressive Celtic/folk/rock opus shot to number one in album charts around the world in 1973 and 1974, throwing its young composer into the international spotlight and kick-starting Richard Branson’s Virgin music empire.
