They like their rhythms catchy, their grooves infectious and their melodies resonate harmoniously with your eardrums. Florelie & the Backlash Brew is a collective of soulful and passionate Melbourne musicians specialising in Soul & Funk. Their organic sound, always delivered with conviction, is a concoction of the old & modern elements of funk and soul, duly inspired by legends such as Aretha Franklin, James Brown & Stevie Wonder.

The band was formed when local singer and songwriter, Florelie Escano, gathered a group of talented local musicians in early 2009. They immediately hit the bustling Melbourne music scene and since then, the band has played the city’s most popular live music venues such as The Espy, The Evelyn & The Toff In Town just to name a few. They have also supported international acts such as Arrested Development, Roy Ayers, Lotek and UK Mercury Prize winner, Speech Debelle.

Their first single, “Moody Blues” will be released through independent Australian and UK label,
Counterclockwise and First Word Records, in May 2011.
