PBS, PRESS PLAY & PREMIER ARTISTS PRESENT

James Chance and the Contortions – THURSDAY JANUARY 14, NORTHCOTE SOCIAL CLUB

Punk collides with a jazz-blues-funk permutation, as James Chance & the Contortions tour Australia for the very first time in January 2016.

Best known for his work in such bands as Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, James Chance & the Contortions and James White & the Blacks as well as collaborations with Lydia Lunch and Blondie, James Chance was a key figure in the quick-flash but potent No Wave movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Described as combining the freeform playing of Ornette Coleman with the solid funk rhythm of James Brown, filtered through a punk rock lens, James Chance brings his sonic punch and bone-rattling kinetic rhythms to Australia with a newly assembled Contortions featuring members of The Drones and Clairy Browne & the Bangin’ Rackettes.
