Accra, Brazzaville, Cape Town, Dakar, Lagos, Juba, Kampala, Mogadishu, Zanzibar and next stop? Melbourne!

Next Stop Melbourne now in its second year, is an all-day celebration of contemporary African cultures in Melbourne, to be held on Sunday February 1st, 2015. It is a vibrant, forward-thinking event that features an eclectic line up of talent from both established and emerging artists from the African-Australian diaspora including, music, theatre, visual art, spoken word and poetry.

Next Stop Melbourne's vision is both fiercely contemporary and diasporic, and refuses to put limitations on what 'African' or 'Australian' can mean.

Next Stop Melbourne 2015 will be presented in association with the SummerSalt Outdoor Arts Festival and is a free event running from 2-8pm at the SummerSalt Festival Hub, Dodds Street, Southbank.

A rising star in Melbourne’s reggae and dancehall scene, SK Simeon, will headline Next Stop Melbourne 2015 with his singjay vocal delivery, mixture of comedic tone with conscious lyrics and upbeat live show.

Estère uses a mixture of bass, synth, drums, guitar, vocal harmonies, keyboard, whistles, claps, kazoo, and anything else that might take her fancy, then layers her production with pulsating rhythms and evocative melodies that adhere to the genre of 'Electric Blue Witch hop.'

A fresh voice to hip-hop, True Vibenation blend elements of Afrobeat, dubstep, soul and electronic music to create a sound that could have come out of anywhere in the world.

Led by master Somali musician Abdi Mohamed Abdi, Somali Peace Band are a unique funk band bringing sophisticated music and poetry, and overwhelming natural beauty from their homeland to Melbourne.

Olugbade Okunade, a master of the trumpet and the saxophone has toured the globe with Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 and settled in Melbourne. He will perform a special one-off collaboration with poet Magan Magan.

Hip-hop newcomer N Y U O N has quietly been making a name for himself with his honest lyrics, witty punchlines and raw beats.

The creative collective Still Nomads will be curating a pop up stage of spoken word, poetry and music.
