by Liz Green

If you want to be transported back to a time when vaudeville, music halls, jazz and folkloric music ruled the scene then Liz Green’s latest album Haul Away is a must have! As with her first album O Devotion, there’s a certain darkness to her storytelling ways, but it’s tinged with jaunty piano motifs and a cabaret feel that makes the album feel much lighter than the lyrics would indicate.

The album is high quality from start to finish, but stand out songs include the opener ‘Battle’ which is a stripped back folk tale, the very uppity ‘Where the river don’t flow’ and the instrumental tune ‘Little’ which surprises at just the right time. Liz Green’s well known quirkiness also comes out beautifully in this album, and makes one wonder what’s next from this talented, and possibly underrated, musician.
